Fire at buffalo shed, buffaloes burnt

29-05-2018 5.00 pm A buffalo shed near Sapoli, Taluka Pen, District Raigad, Maharashtra was engulfed by fire earlier today (29-05-2018. Buffaloes burnt. Details awaited. 29-05-2018 8.00 pm Activist at site (Eknath Patil: phone no 9881188404) reported that the dairy  that operates in the shed had 40 buffaloes out of which 22 buffaloes have suffered  burn injuries, many of them are serious. Veterinary staff have left the site. Most of the affected animals are out in the open tied with ropes/chains with no effort being taken to mitigate their suffering. The owner and staff appear to be oblivious to their responsibility towards the animals. The operation is a relatively large one, the buffaloes are always tied with chains/ ropes, the inadequate and inappropriate infrastructure resulted in them not being safely evacuated in time. Buffaloes slashed and stabbed, case filed

On 27-05-2018 at about 6.00 pm buffaloes belonging to one Raghunath Rama Dhebe and his brother both residents of Parkhande village, Khalapur taluka, Raigad district, Maharashtra were allegedly attacked by a sharp weapon by accused Narayan Ram Shinde belonging to Vanavathe village, Khalapur taluka while they were being led to the banks of the stream at Vanavathe village for the purpose of watering by Dhebe. A total of 15 buffaloes suffered slash and stab wounds on locations such as face, leg, back and rump. A case has been filed under sections 429 and 504 of IPC and Section 11(1}(a) of PCA Act, 1960.and FIR no 0096 dt. 28-05-2018 has been lodged  at Khalapur police station. IO is HC Janardan Pandurang.

Case filed against driver who hit bullock cart

A bullock cart was hit by a car at Khalapur Phata on NH4B, Pune lane, at about 5.00 pm on 25-08-2018 Both bullocks were badly hurt, volunteers struggled all through the night  against lack of veterinary facilities, pressure and intimidation from local politicians and non-availability of ambulance to provide necessary help to the bullocks.  Finally at about 4.00 pm the next day both bullocks were admitted to RESQ Hospital, Pune  for treatment thanks to the efforts of volunteers of Aai Mata Gaushala, Kharghar & Guru Sathelkar from Khopoli. A police case has been filed against car driver under IPC 337, 429, 279 & Section 184 of MVA, 1988. FIR no 0094 dt. 26/05/2018 has been lodged at Khalapur Police Station. IO is Vishvanath Vithoba Prognosis is poor on account of serious nature of trauma and delay in hospitalisation. "Food" animals

According to section 2.5.1(a) of Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 a "food" animal is defined as 2.5.1: DEFINITION  "animal" means an animal belonging to any of the species specified below:- (i) Ovines; (ii) Caprines; (iii) Suillines; (iv) Bovines (v)  Domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus); and includes poultry and fish. Notes:- Ovines: "of, relating to, or resembling sheep" Caprines: "of, relating to, or being a goat" Suillines: "of or relating to a pig" Bovines: : "any of a subfamily (Bovinae) of bovids including oxen, bison, buffalo, and their close relative" Domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) were included in the list by way of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India)Notification, New Delhi, the 12th September, 2017 Links to various Food Safety and Standards Regulations on their official website .

The Central Motor Vehicles (Twelfth Amendment) Rules, 2016

The Central Motor Vehicles 1989, (Twelfth Amendment) Rules, 2016 RULE 125E : Special requirements of motor vehicles transporting livestock (1) On and after, the 1st January, 2016, motor vehicles used for transportation of livestock by road shall be in accordance with the specifications of the Bureau of Indian Standards as provided in IS-14904:2007; or IS-5238:2001; or IS-5236:1982, as the case may be, as amended from time to time and the transporter or consigner of the livestock shall follow the code of practice laid down in the respective specification regarding the transport of the livestock. (2) Subject to sub-rule (1), the motor vehicles for carrying animals shall have permanent partitions in the body of the vehicle so that the animals are carried individually in each partition where the size of the partition shall not be less than the following, namely— (i) Cows and buffaloes = 2 sq. mts. (ii) Horses and mares = 2.25 sq. mts. (iii) Sheep and goat = 0.3 sq. mts.

Indore collector bans animal drawn carts in district

Taking into cognisance the extremely warm weather in Indore district, with temperatures between 11.00 am and 5.00 pm crossing 40 degree Celsius, the Collector, Indore  in compliance to provisions of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and Section 6 of Cruelty to Draught and Pack Animals Rules, 1965 has banned the use of animal drawn vehicles in Indore district from 1 May, 2018 to 15 July, 2018.
